Help...Hope...Healing

"Therefore strengthen the hands that hang down, and the feeble knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather healed."                                     Hebrews 12:12-13

A Personal Word From Bob Nix

Thank you for considering The Abiding Place Christian Counseling Ministry. It is my prayer that our Heavenly Father will guide your steps to find the help and assistance you are seeking.

I want you to know that this ministry is unashamedly Christian and the primary source of counsel we seek comes from the Word of God. This is very important for you to consider before making a decision about where you will go for counsel. God tells us His ways are not our ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts. When we are seeking to resolve some of life's most perplexing dilemmas and problems it is important, no, imperative we stay rooted and grounded in the Truth of His Word. The truth and principles of God's Word have, and will continue to stand the test of time. We can do no better, we can go no higher than the Word of God and the God of the Word.

There are three words that best describe the path of restoration and renewal that is provided through Jesus Christ our Lord. The first is the word -

Help

. We have complete confidence that it is our God's desire to help His people. The second is the word -

Hope.

God delights in restoring hope where there once was none. There is hope for you, your marriage, your family, your heart! The third is the word -

Healing

. With the help of our God and the hope He alone can provide, there is great potential for healing in all dimensions of life. May He grant you perfect peace as you seek His will!

Grace & Peace,
Bob Nix

Our Approach

Our approach to Christian counseling is three tiered:

Tier One - Interrogative

The first step in the counseling process is to do a general assesment of the need that is being presented to determine the best course of action. The Interrogative involves the client completing a Personal Client Profile (sent via e-mail, FAX, or regular mail.) Once the PCP has been received and assessed we will contact the client via personal interview, either in person or by phone. The purpose of this visit will be to determine the next level of interaction. The goal here is to make sure that both the client as well as the counselor are comfortable before progressing to the next level.

Tier Two - Intensive

After the initial consultation, if both counselor and counselee are in agreement, the next step will be to schedule a one, two, or three day Intensive at The Abiding Place Retreat & Conference Center in Centerville, TX. Over many years of counseling hundreds of individuals we believe this environment provides the best opportunity to deal specifically and intentionally with the issues and areas that have caused you to seek counsel in the first place. At the end of the Intensive we develop together a Strategic Plan of Action pinpointing specific steps of action, goals, and accountability.

Tier Three - Intervention

In the most extreme cases, when circumstances warrant, we might recommend what is referred to as an Intervention. This would have to be done in concert with family members, church leaders and others who might be able to directly impact a deteriorating situation in a positive manner. Interventions must be carried out after careful, prayerful consideration from all affected parties.

This is a general overview of our approach to the counseling ministry. If, after considering the information above, you would like to talk further, we would be honored to hear from you.

 The Abiding Place Doctrinal Statement

  •        We believe in one God, creator, and sustainer of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally co-existing in three persons - Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

  •        We believe The Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, are the inspired and trustworthy Word of God, the complete revelation of His will for the salvation of mankind, and the final authority for all of His children.

  •        We believe that human nature derives from two historical persons, male and females created perfect in God's image; they sinned, plunging themselves and all mankind into sin, suffering and death.

  •        We believe that the substitutionary death of Jesus Christ and His bodily resurrection provide the only ground for justification, forgiveness, and salvation for all who believe.

  •        We believe that the Holy Spirit is the agent of regeneration and renewal for Believers in Christ, that He makes the presence of Jesus Christ real in the life of the Believer, and that He comforts, guides, convicts, and enables Believers to live in constant communion and fellowship with Father God.

  •        We believe that ministry to persons acknowledges the complexity of humans as physical, psychological, social and Spiritual beings.  The ultimate goal of Christian counseling is to help others move to personal wholeness, interpersonal competence, mental stability, and spiritual maturity.

A Special Note Concerning Christian Counseling

In the State of Texas there are two avenues for practicing legally as a Counselor. The first is to fulfill the requirements set forth by the State as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). For those who do not posess their LPC certification the second avenue is to counsel in a non-profit environment. (An LPC may practice in either arena.) The Abiding Place Christian Counseling Center has been established as an integral part of Kingdom Heart Ministries, Inc. a 501(C)3 Non-profit Organization. Bob is not an LPC but operates in the arena of "pastoral counseling."
